AND WHAT WE ARE SEEKING TONIGHT IS INCREASE IN SALARY, INCREASE IN PAY FOR THE TAXI CAB DRIVERS DUE TO THE INCREASE IN GAS PRICES.

WE, UH, WE ARE NOT MEETING OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR AS THE MONDAY IS CONCERNED AS FAR AS THE DRIVERS CONCERNED AND WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR THE NIGHT, UH, MAYOR BAYLIS AND THE BOARD OF ALDERMAN IS THERE, UH, A 5 CENT INCREASE ON, UH, ON A 10TH OF A MILE RIGHT NOW WE'RE PAYING 10 CENTS ON THE 10TH OF A MILE.

SO WHAT WE ASKED THEM FOR IS TO INCREASE THE 5 CENTS, WHICH WOULD GIVE US OUR 15 CENTS AND IT WAS EQUAL TO A DOLLAR AND A HALF A MILE.

UH, SO WE, UH, WE TALKED TO SOBA AMONG THE OWNERS AND WE DIDN'T THINK THIS WAS TOO MUCH AN INCREASE TO ASK FOR DUE TO THE PRICE INCREASES.

AND IT'S STILL GOING UP EACH DAY.

IT'S REAL OLD AS WELL.

SO THIS IS WHY WE'RE HERE TONIGHT.

SO I'M SURE SOME TYPE OF INCREASE IS JUSTIFIED, WHETHER IT'S 5 CENTS, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW, IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A LOT, BUT IT CERTAINLY SEEMS TO BE AN AMOUNT THAT WOULD COMPENSATE YOU FOR THE INCREASE IN COSTS OF DOING BUSINESS.

AND ALSO I'M JUST, I'M IN FAVOR OF IT.

I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT SHOULD LAST.

MAYBE, YOU KNOW, WHEN GAS PRICES DIMINISHED OR DECREASED, MAYBE WE NEED TO REVISIT THIS ISSUE PROBABLY OR REDUCE THEM.

BUT I, YOU KNOW, I, HE, HASN'T SPOKEN TO ME ABOUT THIS.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HEARD THIS.

RIGHT, BUT ANYBODY THAT'S INFORMED KNOWS THAT IF YOU DO BUSINESS DEALING WITH GASOLINE AND AUTOMOBILE, YOUR COST OF DOING BUSINESS HAS INCREASED.

I'M ESPECIALLY SUPPORTIVE BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

AND IF IT'S ANYTHING THAT JEOPARDIZES THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION THAT'S AVAILABLE THROUGH TAXICABS, IT WILL BE A HARDSHIP ON THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO DOESN'T DRIVE.

BUT IF YOU DON'T GO UP ON THE TEXAS FAIR, THE DRIVERS CAN'T AFFORD IT.

SO THEY'D HAVE TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS AND THERE WILL BE NO OTHER ALTERNATIVES.

SO YOU, WE DON'T HAVE BUSES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

I KNOW THAT I DROPPED THE TRUCK AT BAD BOY, THREE, SOME GAS.

SO I'M TELLING YOU THAT.

SO I COULD ONLY IMAGINE, YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU'RE GASPING YOU COULD BE LIKE.

SO I'M, I PERSONALLY AM MOST SUPPORTIVE OF YOUR REQUEST.

SO IT'S GOING TO GO UP ON THE AVERAGE OF FIVE MILES.

THAT'S THE MOST, UH, YOU FIGURED SOME DOLLAR AND 80 CENTS, UH, PLUS MAYBE THREE OR FOUR MILES.

SO FLAT RATE AT THAT TIME.

YEAH, BUT AROUND ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION, THIS IS SOMEWHERE AROUND FOUR OR FIVE MILES.

THAT'S THE MOST THAT WE RE USUALLY TRACK.

AND SO THE, FOR THE AVERAGE, IT PROBABLY COST THEM ANOTHER TWO TO TWO 50, UH, TO GO YOU'RE OKAY TO GO FROM HERE TO THE MALL, TO GO FROM HERE TO THE MALL, I WOULD RUN THE VAL THREATENED AS RUNNING ABOUT $4 AND 80 CENTS.

I JUST CAN'T DO IT BECAUSE I WORRY ABOUT THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM THIS IS GOING TO REALLY KIND OF CREATE A PROBLEM TO THE LOWER INCOME PEOPLE, THE ONES THAT THEY HAVE THE BIGGEST NEED FOR THE CALVES, BECAUSE THEY, A LOT OF THEM DON'T HAVE CARS IN THEIR HOME.

I HATE TO HAVE TO DO IT, BUT I DON'T REALLY SEE ANY WAY IT, BUT YOU DON'T MATCH.

I THINK YOUR CONCERNS JUSTIFIED, YOU KNOW, MY WARD IS PRIMARILY LOWER INCOME FOLKS, BUT YOU KNOW, THAT WORKS BOTH WAYS.

AND, YOU KNOW, THERE MUST BE SOME, UH, SOME MAGIC INVOLVED IN IT BECAUSE WITHOUT KNOWING THEIR OPERATING COSTS AND EVERYTHING ELSE, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING? WE'RE SITTING HERE, YOU KNOW, TELLING THE MAN OR TRYING TO TELL THESE PEOPLE WHAT THEY OUGHT TO BE ABLE TO CHARGE FOR A BUSINESS.
